Chisinau, 23 March /MOLDPRES/ - The members of the EU-Moldova parliamentary association committee in Brussels today adopted a declaration, thereby asking to start the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union as soon as possible, till the end of this year, following the fulfillment of those nine recommendations submitted by the European Commission.
Also, in the declaration passed, the committee members ask to create a special regime of sanctions for the people who act for Moldova’s destabilization, reads a press release by Romanian European MP Siegfried Muresan.
„Moldova and its citizens have proved that they want to be part of the European Union. Moldova has made great progress in the rapprochement with EU in the last year, despite the challenges it faces and the threats on behalf of Russia. Namely therefore, we must give Moldova more clarity as to the steps which come now, following the giving of the status of candidate in 2022. For this reason, we demand the starting of negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union as soon as possible, immediately after the fulfillment of those nine recommendations submitted by the European Commission in 2022,’’ the co-president of the EU-Moldova parliamentary association committee, Siegfried Muresan, said.
The document unanimously adopted by the members of the parliamentary association committee today also asks for the full liberalization of the trade between Moldova and the European Union, Moldova’s as soon as possible integration into the single European market and the increase in financial support provided by EU.
The declaration was adopted at the 13th meeting of the parliamentary association committee, held in Brussels today. The event brought together members of the European parliament and Moldovan legislative body, representatives of the Moldovan government, European Commission and of the European External Action Service.
