Moldovan government, in cooperation with United Nations Refugee Agency to continue backing refugees, local communities

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - The social and economic integration of Ukrainian refugees and the planned actions to support them have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Representative of the United Nations Refugee Agency for Moldova Francesca Bonelli, the government’s communication and protocol department reported.    

The PM appreciated the contribution of the UN Agency to the enhancing of the government’s response capacity and development of efficient mechanisms for the management of refugees’ crisis. Dorin Recean highlighted the openness to extend the framework of cooperation, in order to provide as many as possible opportunities to people replaced from Ukraine and our communities which host them.    

In the context, Prime Minister Dorin Recean referred to the cabinet’s priorities for the next period, stressing the continuing of the humanitarian programmes, facilitating refugees’ employment, backing the integration of refugees’ children in the education system and providing the educational support needed. ‘’We bear responsibility to support these people and their integration in our society and we count on the cooperation of the UN Refugee Agency in this process,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.    

For her part, Francesca Bonelli stressed that Moldova has become an example internationally through the solidarity proved by the authorities and citizens, through the immediate and efficient response to the management of the flow of refugees, as well as through the development of the instrument of refugees’ temporary protection.  

„Even if we do not have refugees at the border now, they need support here, in Moldova. At the same time, our common goal is to make out of the presence of refugees an opportunity of development for the country,’’ Representative of the UN Refugee Agency Francesca Bonelli said.  

Presently, according to the authorities, over 82,000 Ukrainian refugees stay in Moldova.
