PM meets head of World Health Organization's office in Moldova

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean and the head of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) office in Moldova,  Miljana Grbic, discussed the importance of the investments in health, fight with misinformation in the medical sector and increasing the capacities of the Moldovan medical system at a meeting today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The PM appreciated the contribution brought by the organization to the development and modernization of the medical system from Moldova and thanked for the constant support provided to the citizens on the pandemic period and in the management of the humanitarian crisis. In the context of marking WHO’s 75th anniversary, Prime Minister Dorin Recean referred to the extension of the bilateral relations between Moldova and the World Health Organization in the sense of the promotion of education for health.    

„A sound society is an active one, which contributes to the country’s economic development. We must consolidate the efforts, in order enhance people’s confidence in science, in the health institutions and in medical staff,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.    

The head of the WHO office in Chisinau, Miljana Grbic, said the institution she represents would continue providing the Health Ministry and authorities material support, expertise, financial assistance and programmes needed to strengthen the health system.

On 7 April 2023, the World Health Organization marks its 75th anniversary, along with those 194 member states and other partners, calling for a renewed impetus for cooperation and equity in health. In the last seven decades and a half, WHO has made progress in the prevention and eradication of more diseases, as well as in the saving of millions of lives through the immunization of children, decrease in the maternal mortality and ensuring the well-being for millions of people.
