Raids in northern Moldova

Chisinau, April 11 /MOLDPRES/- Six people were detained following the searches carried out by the officers of the Northern Territorial General Directorate of the CNA and the prosecutors of the Northern Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, on several criminal cases, started on acts of corruption committed by employees of the Public Services Agency. The suspects allegedly implemented, in the north of the country, a scheme to claim illicit financial means from people applying for driving licenses.

According to CNA, starting from August 2022 and until now, the head of the Transport Registration and Driver Qualification Section of Edineț, both personally and jointly with other employees of the institution, including through his father, allegedly extorted from candidates to obtaining driver's licenses, who did not take the practical test of the qualification exam, money that is not due to them in amounts ranging from 500 to 1000 euros. The sums were charged to favor the candidates for the exams, by applying the qualification "admitted", with the subsequent issuance of the driver's license.

In the process of documentation, 5 other criminal files were opened for passive corruption on the fact that the head of SÎTCCA Edineț, together with his father, having an advance understanding with several people from Edineț, Briceni and Dondușeni districts, would have accepted and received means from them money in amounts ranging from 350 to 1000 euros, to favor the candidates for the practical tests. On April 10, under the control of the CNA, the sum of 400 euros was sent to the head of the Dondușeni branch of the "National Army Specialist Training Center", who was detained for 72 hours.

Today, the criminal prosecution actions continued by carrying out 13 searches at the SÎTCCA Edineț office, the office of the Dondușeni branch of ÎS "Center for training specialists for the National Army", in the cars and homes of people suspected of committing acts of corruption. During the searches, 400 euros were collected, delivered under the control of the CNA, draft documents with identity data and contact numbers of the candidates, copies of identity cards, 24 thousand euros, 95 thousand lei, mobile phones and computing technique.
