Almost one fourth of electors vote at polls in Gagauz-Yeri Autonomy in first half of day

Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/ - About one fourth of the voters registered for the today’s ballot, held in the Gagauz autonomy for the nomination of a new governor (bashkan) of the region, exercised their right to vote in the first half of the day.
According to the electoral commission from Comrat, 23,332 citizens (24.6 per cent) voted by the noon. A number of 2,159 electors cast their ballots on additional lists.
The most active electoral sector is the village Cioc-Maidan (36 per cent) for the time being. The lowest voter turnout was in the settlement Congazcic (17 per cent).
According to the electoral commission from the region, over 92,000 citizens with right to vote are recorded in the Gagauz autonomy. Eight candidates aspire for the position of bashkan of the autonomy.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) accredited more international observers for monitoring the elections of the bashkan of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and of the partial elections to the People’s Assembly (local parliament) of the Gagauz autonomy from 30 April.
The governor (bashkan) is the supreme official figure of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri. All public administration authorities of the autonomy are subordinated to him/her. The elections of the bashkan are held once in four years.
