Chisinau, May 3 /MOLDPRES/- The press plays a key role in the democratization of society and institutions. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement at today's cabinet meeting, in the context of marking the World Press Freedom Day on May 3.
""Congratulations to my colleagues from the press. We must be proud the Republic of Moldova has moved up in the press freedom ranking. We are on the 28th place, we have climbed 12 positions from the 40th place. The press plays a decisive role in the democratization of society and institutions, in monitoring our institutions and making sure that the citizen is informed. We must all take care to provide as much information as possible about the Government's activity, we must be clear when we tell people about the public policies we promote. The press, beyond the fact that it criticizes us, that it praises us, the most important thing is that the press informs the citizen about important subjects. Congratulations to the press and society for advancing in the degree of freedom of the press", Recean said.
The Republic of Moldova ranks 28th out of 180 countries in the world ranking of press freedom, rising 12 positions compared to last year, when our country ranked 40th. The data were presented today in the context of the World Press Freedom Day. The World Press Freedom Index is set annually by the international organization Reporters Without Borders.
