Moldovan president, more American officials discuss cooperation with United States

Chisinau, 14 May /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a string of meetings, on the sidelines of the Moldovan-American Convention, the presidential press service reported.
The head of state met Democrat senator Dick Durbin and republican congressman Mike Lawler, with whom she tackled the Moldovan-American good cooperation and friendship relations. The officials referred to the security challenges in the region and how they affect Moldova. The sides discussed also how the Unites States can help Moldova easier cope with the current challenges. The Moldovan president thanked, on this occasion, for the assistance received by Moldova during those 30 years of cooperation, in order to have a stronger democracy.
President Maia Sandu also discussed with the administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for Europe and Eurasia, Erin McKee. The officials approached the assistance the USAID had provided Moldova during years, especially since Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. The sides also touched upon new possibilities of financing, which is to help the cabinet speed up the consolidation of the democracy and economic growth through infrastructure, transport projects and the ones on enhancing the energy resilience.
The head of state expressed gratitude for the support provided through USAID and the U.S. government for the enhancement of the democracy and the growth of the economy of Moldova. With the support of USAID, we have developed the key sectors of the economy, such as the information technologies and creative industries, agricultural and wine-making sectors, light industry, as well as the business environment.
On12-13 May, President Maia Sandu was on a visit to the United States, Chicago, to participate in the ninth edition of the Moldovan-American Convention.
