Chisinau, 10 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has thanked the policewomen and policemen for the fact that they provide safety to citizens through their work, on the 31st anniversary of Moldova’s Border Police, the president press service reported.

The head of state stressed that the border policemen were on duty at any time, especially in crisis times. ‘’You were on duty in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic and you were the first to meet those over 1 million people who were fleeing Russia’s war against Ukraine. You managed this unprecedented flow for Moldova with professionalism and empathy. Our border crossing points became centres for refugees and you were among the first who brought us the name of ‘’small country with great heart,’’ ‘’ the Moldovan president said.

Maia Sandu noted that the work of the border policemen was more than security and public order – they represent the visiting card of Moldova. ‘’You are the first who wish ‘’welcome’’ to parents who return from abroad to children who remained here and the last ones who wish safe journey  to young people who leave to study abroad. The home starts and ends with you for Moldovans,’’ the president also said.

In the end of the event, the head of state awarded distinctions to employees of the border police, as a token of high appreciation for their labour and devotion. ‘’Thank you for the fact that you take care of our country’s borders and of the peace of our citizens. Congratulations!’’ President Maia Sandu added.
