Desertification and Drought Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, June 17. /MOLDPRES/- Desertification and Drought Day is marked today in the Republic of Moldova. The event aims to raise awareness of the problems generated by the drought.

According to the State Hydrometeorological Service, this year the campaign for Desertification and Drought Day has the slogan "Her Land. Her Rights" and promotes awareness of the disproportionate impact of desertification, land degradation and drought on women and girls; women's contributions to sustainable land management; mobilizing global support to promote land rights for women and girls.

The Republic of Moldova joined the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, through Parliament Decision 257-XIV of December 24, 1998. As a result, in 2000, through Government Decision no. 367 of April 13, 2000, the National Program of Actions to combat desertification in the Republic of Moldova was approved.
