Moldovan, Romanian officials approach current issues

Chisinau, June 22. /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu spoke yesterday with President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă, on a visit to Chisinau, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Grosu thanked him for the attention and support. "Relations between our countries have a very good dynamic, which can be seen through joint projects for the citizens on both banks of the Prut," he said.

The officials approached issues on the Moldovan parliament's agenda and the progress in fulfilling the recommendations of the European Commission. Grosu emphasized that the Chisinau authorities are determined to open negotiations with the EU by the end of the year and count on the support of Romanian diplomacy, which has a crucial role in our country's European path.

They also discussed concrete ways to boost economic cooperation, energy interconnection and acceleration of infrastructure projects between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. "Soon we will complete one year since we became a candidate country for EU accession and throughout this year Romania has been by our side, guided us and came up with concrete actions that help us move forward in this process. Moldova is determined to be part of the European family, along with Romania", he said.

Grosu had a meeting with Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu, to whom he wished success in his new position. He expressed the openness of the Republic of Moldova to boost economic relations and infrastructure projects with Romania. "This year we are taking decisive steps to open negotiations with the EU and we need all the expertise and support of Romania", he said.
