Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today conveyed a congratulatory message to all citizens, on the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty, the presidential press service has reported.

„On 23 June 1990, when the Declaration of Sovereignty was adopted, Moldova’s way to the independence, to the right to decide by ourselves the destiny and the future started. In the last 33 years, there have been more obstacles on the way of Moldova’s development; yet, our people kept united and remained firm in the wish to be free, to live worthy and bring up the children in peace,’’ the head of state said.

In her message, the Moldovan president stressed that, through the Declaration of Sovereignty, the citizenship had been established, foundations were laid for the working out of a new Constitution, the decision was confirmed to directly participate in the European process for cooperation and security and the most important thing, it was stipulated that the people is the source and bearer of the sovereignty. Also, the head of state also said that, 33 years ago, Moldova had ruled to separate from the Soviet regime and fulfill its dream to become a rule of law state, in which the citizens live in good understanding and with confidence in future.

„Now, Moldova ruled to join the European family, for the same reasons for which we fought for sovereignty, independence, freedom – so that our family and children are able to live happily at home. We have managed to do many things together, despite the difficulties. We will manage this time as well – our way is right!,’’  Maia Sandu said.
