National Day of National Costume marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/ - The National Day of National Costume is marked in Moldova today. A string of events are organized on this occasion.
The actions are carried out by the Culture Ministry, National Ethnography and Natural History Museum, Old Orhei Culture and Nature Reserve and the National Centre for Preservation and Promotion of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The holiday takes place at the headquarters of the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum, as well as the at the aforementioned Reserve and is backed by the development partners, National Inbound and Domestic Tourism Association of Moldova (ANTRIM) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The goal of the National Costume Day is to turn to good account the authentic Romanian costume, know the component parts of the costume and its symbols, promote techniques of manufacturing the national costume nationally and internationally. This year, the event is organized in the context of the registration of the file, The art of the traditional blouse with embroidery on the shoulder – element of cultural identity in the Republic of Moldova and Romania in the List of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
At the holiday, traditional blouses with embroidery on the shoulder and national costumes from public and private collections of Moldova will be displayed, artistic bands will perform, a fair of popular craftsmen will be held; people will be able to participate in creation workshops.
The National Costume Day is annually marked in Moldova on the last Sunday of June. This year, the event is at its eighth edition.
