Moldovan president says country's national costume really shows entire spectrum of nation's DNA

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/ - The National Day of National Costume is celebrated on the last Sunday of June. In villages and cities, women and men, children and elderly people wear traditional blouses with embroidery on the shoulder, Romanian homespun skirts or peasant’s vests, thus celebrating the tradition, blood relation and respect for the nation, the presidential press service has reported.

„Ever more people wear national costumes year after year; our national costume witnesses a true revival and celebration. Embroidered scrupulously, with patience and self-denial, it is meant, from times immemorial, to protect from diseases and dangers, to bring prosperity, health and long life to the one who wear it. Each nuance, each sign weaved or pricked with the needle is rich with hidden symbols and senses, meaning the man’s relation with the universe, the joy to live, the aspirations, dreams and the strength to overcome the evil things,’’ the head of state said.

President Maia Sandu stressed that the country’s national costume, through its cut, proportions and colours, really shows the entire spectrum of our DNA: ’’the simple, right dignity, which protects its borders, without wishing for the others’ ones, the strength to defend what is dear for us, the need to share, with happiness, the fruits of our land with the close people, the capacity to admire and be grateful for the beauty of the nature and everything which lives around.’’
