Moldova hosts European Junior Weightlifting Championships for the first time ever

Chisinau, 2 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova hosts the European Junior Weightlifting Championships for the first time ever. The event takes place on 1-10 July and brings together 346 sportspeople from 37 states. Moldova is represented by 32 weightlifters.
The competition started on 1 July evening in a festive atmosphere. In his speech, Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala conveyed a congratulatory message to all participants, noting that the organization of this far-reaching sports event was an honour for Moldova.
„In Moldova, this kind of sport is one with traditions. I think that the entire world knows our golden weightlifter, Olympic champion Tudor Casapu, as well as weightlifters men and women, who represented our country with dignity at international sports competitions. The holding of the European Weightlifting Championships in Moldova is recognition of the fact that our country is a component part of the European sport. Through sport, we edify bridges and promote the values which we share with the European Union,’’ Anatolie Topala said.
Attending the event, the honorary president of the Moldovan Weightlifting Federation, Tudor Casapu, wished success to the participants in the competition, appreciating the effort of all those involved in the event’s organization. ‘’So far, our sportspeople have brought home more medals from international tournaments, European, world championships and Olympic Games. I welcome everybody in Moldova,’’ the Olympic champion in weightlifting, Tudor Casapu, said.
According to the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), the European Weightlifting Championships is held at the Chisinau Arena – the biggest cultural and sports complex from Moldova. The entrance is free.
