July 4 declared day of national mourning for victims at Airport

Chisinau, July 3. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu decreed July 4 as a day of national mourning for the victims at the Airport.
Maia Sandu also signed a decree by which the Military Merit Medal is awarded postmortem to Igor Ciofu, reserve lieutenant-colonel of the Protection and State Guard Service, and to Serghei Munteanu, deputy chief agent of Border Police of the Ministry of Interior.
"For the commemoration of Serghei Muntean and Igor Ciofu, victims of the tragic incident occurred at Chisinau International Airport on June 30 and as a sign of deep compassion and solidarity with the families, relatives and close friends of the victims, President Maia Sandu signed a decree declaring the 4th of July as a day of national mourning", the administration of the presidential institution said.
On this day, in all localities in the country, as well as in diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad, state flags will be flown at half mast. At 12.00 the memory of the victims will be honored by keeping a moment of silence.
Public authorities, businesses and organizations are advised to give up mass entertaining actions, and media institutions to take into account the specifics of the 4th of July when editing publications and forming programs.
Serghei Muntean and Igor Ciofu died on June 30 at Chisinau International Airport, after being shot by a foreign citizen, who was not allowed to enter the country.
