Bessarabians in Gulag exhibition to be open by July 30

Chisinau, July 9. /MOLDPRES/- The government announces that the immersive exhibition "Bessarabians in Gulag" will continue by July 30, following many requests from citizens. The action is taking place on the Great National Assembly Square in memory of the victims of the biggest wave of Stalinist deportations, from the night of July 6, 1949, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In the two metal wagons, objects used by the victims of the deportations are exhibited, and each visitor can feel on his own skin the conditions and the slush that after 3 weeks of torturous journey, changed to the icy cold of Siberia. Also, daily screenings of documentary films dedicated to this tragedy take place here.
74 years ago, on the night of July 5 to 6, 1949, the Soviet communist regime organized the largest mass deportation action on the current territory of the Republic of Moldova. 11,281 families were forcibly displaced in wagons similar to those located in the Great National Assembly Square. This means 35,796 people, of which 11,889 were children, 14,033 - women and 9,864 - men.
The stories of the families deported to Siberia and Mongolia are told at the exhibition in the Great National Assembly Square.
The thematic exhibition was organized with the support of the State Enterprise Moldova Railway, which provided and installed the 2 metal wagons, the National Archives Agency, the National Museum of History and the National Library of the Republic of Moldova.
