Moldovan foreign affairs minister discusses with group of Italian lawmakers

Chisinau, 24 July /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with a group of Italian MPs members of the Foreign and European Community Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies: Lia Quartapelle (Democratic Party); Giangiacomo Calovini (Fratelli d'Italia); Andrea Crippa (Lega); Arnaldo Lomuti (M5S) and Ettore Rosato (Italia Viva), the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MASEIE) press service reported.  

The two countries during these three decades of diplomatic relations have edified a close, strategic relation, of friendship based on the European values, which we share together. The Moldovan official informed the Italian lawmakers about the fact that the government would continue implementing the domestic reforms, in order to speed up the process of Moldova’s accession to EU.   

„I also referred to new possibilities of cooperation in the economic sector, strengthening the partnerships in the business sector. Italy is one of the most important commercial partners of Moldova, with the trade between the two countries amounting to about 690 million euros.  

We discussed also the quite important role played by Moldova’s Diaspora in Italy and the next steps which we are to undertake, for the agreement in the social security sector to enter into force. This agreement was signed in June 2021 and on 10 March this year, the council of ministers from Italy approved the document, which is to be ratified by the Italian parliament,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.
