Drivers to be drug tested

Chisinau, July 26. /MOLDPRES/- Police employees will be able to carry out drug testing of drivers, according to a procedure similar to that applied for alcohol testing. To prevent and combat the consumption and trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances, and making road traffic participants responsible, the government approved at the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs a draft law that requires drug testing of drivers, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Thus, the police officers will be empowered to check the persons suspected of consuming alcohol, narcotic, psychotropic, toxic substances, but also to accompany them to a medical and sanitary institution. Drivers in respect of whom the contravention process has been initiated will be obliged to unconditionally accept drug testing, at the request of the competent authority.
