Minister of Education presented institution's priorities

Chisinau, Aug. 1 /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun today presented the priorities of the institution. Among them are the modernization of educational institutions, the increase in the number of young people going to pedagogy, increasing student scholarships and system employee salaries.
Regarding general education, the ministry proposes to double the number of pedagogy graduates who choose to go and work in the system. In order to increase the prestige of the profession, the admission average for pedagogy will be at least 7. At the same time, scholarships for pedagogy students will be increased up to a minimum wage per economy. The actions are necessary in the context in which schools today lack about two thousand teachers, and 25 percent of the teachers working in the system are retired.
Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) proposes to revise the funding formula per student and to cover separately the costs for teachers' degrees. Another priority aims to debureaucratize and digitize the study process. At the same time, MEC proposes that by the end of the year, with the support of Romanian partners, procure 100 minibuses to transport pupils to school and equip at least 300 educational institutions with computers, digital laboratories and other necessary equipment.
By late 2024, the authorities aim for at least 90 percent of educational institutions to have indoor sanitary blocks.
In terms of the higher education, Perciun said that the priority will be the 10 percent increase in the number of young people who choose to go to university in the Republic of Moldova, and not abroad, the 10 percent increase in the employment rate of graduates, the increase the salaries of university staff and the 50 percent increase in the number of foreign students.
Regarding preschool institutions, MEC aims to create three thousand new places in kindergartens by late 2024.
