Pollution with petroleum products on Termoelectrica company territory exceeds permitted norms by about 70 times

Chisinau, 2 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- Environment Protection Inspectorate (IPM) announced today that it investigated the case of the alleged fuel oil burial on the territory of Termoelectrica SA. Thus, according to the samples taken, it was found that the content level of petroleum products in the examined samples exceeds by about 66 times the value of the maximum admissible concentration.
According to the soil sample test report, dated July 28, 2023, issued by the Soil Quality Laboratory, it was found that the content level of petroleum products in the examined samples exceeds by about 66 times the value of the maximum admissible concentration established, being 6657.0 and 6567.2 mg/kg of petroleum product. "The damage caused to soil resources has been assessed and will be paid by Termoelectrica in accordance with the law", explains IPM.
Also, Termoelectrica violated the provisions of the law on the protection of the environment and the Land Code of the Republic of Moldova. Liability for illegal actions is regulated by the Criminal Code. The environment protection institutions will make reports both for the company and for the persons with responsible positions.
Recently, video images were broadcast in the public space as if Termoelectrica had buried low-quality fuel oil. As a result, the company announced that an internal investigation will be conducted in this case to establish all the circumstances of the incident and will later publish the results.
