Government approved: New activity rules for libraries

Chisinau, 2 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- The activity of libraries will be regulated by new legislative provisions approved today by the government. The document provides for the adjustment of the existing legal framework in the library and information science.

The bill provides clarity to the notion of "library". The amendments aim to diversify the activities of libraries in common with the trends of modernization and transformation of society.

Thus, the new variant of the Law allows the National Library to exercise the function of a National Digitization Center, which means that anyone interested in digitizing the local, territorial cultural heritage or pages from district or local history will turn to the National Library, equipped with two high-performance scanners.

The National Statistics Center of the National Library will provide relevant data and information segmented on various indicators.

The national library system includes about 2,600 institutions.
