PHOTO Councilor detained while handing over 30 thousand dollars to Ocnița mayor

Chisinau, Aug. 3 /MOLDPRES/- Yesterday, anti-corruption officers and prosecutors arrested a district councilor of Ocnița while handing over a sum of 30 thousand dollars to the mayor of the same locality. The person was detained for 72 hours and placed in the isolation cell of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA).

In the criminal case on illegal financing of a political formation and money laundering, the anti-corruption officers and prosecutors found that starting from March 24 and up to now, Ocnița mayor was allegedly approached by one of the councilors district in order to convince him to give up the formation he was a part of and join another political party. Instead, the councilor allegedly promised him an illegal remuneration of 2 million lei, of which 1 million was personal for the mayor, and another part of the money was to be invested in infrastructure projects.

Yesterday, under the CNA control the sum of 30 thousand dollars was received, and the councilor was arrested red-handed. Searches were conducted at the headquarters of a political formation - both in Chisinau and Ocnița. 

Actions on the case are currently ongoing.
