Only public interest messages approved by electoral body can be broadcast during electoral period

Chisinau, Aug. 7 /MOLDPRES/- During the election period, only public interest messages approved by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) can be broadcast. The clarifications were made in the context of beginning the electoral period for the general local elections on November 5.

According to the CEC, in accordance with the provisions regarding advertising "during the electoral period of the general elections, only public interest messages approved by the CEC are broadcast". Thus, starting today until the day when the election results are confirmed by the competent bodies, media service providers, broadcasters and advertising distributors will be entitled to broadcast only public interest messages approved by CEC.

The Commission noted that the public interest message is a form of advertising whose object is the promotion of democratic values, participatory democracy, informing citizens about elections or referendums during electoral periods, as well as about how citizens exercise of political and electoral rights.

All messages of public interest that will be approved by the CEC are to be published on the institution's official website www.cec.md.

On August 4, the CEC approved the Regulation on providing, distributing and broadcasting political, electoral advertising and messages of public interest.
