Chisinau, August 11 /MOLDPRES/- The challenges related to grain transit through the Republic of Moldova and the export of grain from our country were discussed today at a meeting held in Romania, attended by decision-makers from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, the European Commission and the United States of America.
Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, said that investments in infrastructure are an urgent necessity for our country, to meet the needs of Moldovan farmers and those related to transit, given that currently, the Republic of Moldova ensures the transit of products agricultural from Ukraine to the European Union.
According to the deputy prime minister, "the interest of the Republic of Moldova is to increase the transport capacities by rail and sea". "The current problem is that we have a poor quality of railway and naval infrastructure, which reduces the capacity to transport agricultural products. To ensure a faster connection of goods to the EU, we need to increase investment. It is important that the Republic of Moldova was included in the decision-making processes and in the new logistic routes, which increases the degree of cohesion. This would mean additional resources and efforts, but only through cooperation, we will be able to develop sustainable projects on a regional level and ensure the interconnection with the European infrastructure", Bolea said.
Bolea talked to Romanian Minister of Transport Sorin Mihai Grindeanu, Head of the Office Sanctions Coordination, U.S. Department of State James O'Brien, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and DG MOVE director Magda Kopczynska. During the discussions, the official said that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova has been an example of solidarity and our country will continue to be close to the Ukrainian people. Vladimir Bolea also mentioned the negative effects of the war on agricultural producers in the Republic of Moldova.
Grindeanu said that the major investments in infrastructure, which take place in Romania, mostly with European funds, are important for the ties with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the coming years.
After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova played an important role in the transit of agricultural products from Ukraine to the European Union.
