Chisinau, August 15 /MOLDPRES/- At yesterday's cabinet meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu presented the draft decision on setting up a new subdivision at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, aimed at providing external assistance. This initiative will strengthen the international presence of the Republic of Moldova, the MAEIE press service has reported.
"We are aligning with the EU recommendations, seeking to develop international cooperation policies and programs for progress and modernization. Currently, Moldova does not have specific development legislation and does not officially offer assistance to other nations, although we have already been actively involved in solving some regional problems. Here we can mention our contribution in humanitarian aid to Ukraine and in the management of natural disasters such as the earthquakes in Turkey.
Even though we will continue to receive more aid than we will be able to give, we are determined to take an active role in overcoming the various crises. This new subdivision will have responsibility for creating a formal development assistance program. This effort will allow us to provide external support and strengthen collaboration with internal and international partners, thus contributing to our path to the European Union and preparing for EU membership," said Popescu.
