Moldovan president at ambassadors' meeting: We aim to start EU accession negotiations as soon as possible

Chisinau, August 16 /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu participated today in the opening of the meeting of ambassadors. The head of state reviewed the achievements of the last year and outlined the tasks for the next period. Among the four major tasks announced by the president, is the initiation of EU accession negotiations as quickly as possible.

"First of all, we managed to make a significant step to our relationship with the European Union. This is proof of the trust of the European institutions and the member states in Chisinau authorities, in the efforts we are making. We are grateful for this close relationship and for this relationship of trust we have today. European union. The second important achievement is the organization of the summit of the European Political Community. This meeting in Chisinau of the heads of state and government was an opportunity to present the Republic of Moldova and demonstrate that we can all participate in important events. We can provide a platform as it happened in June for the states of the continent to discuss acute issues and I think this summit was a success. Another important achievement is the fight against corruption. Together with you, we managed to obtain the sanctioning of corrupt persons from the Republic of Moldova by several states, including the European Union, the United States of America, Great Britain, and Switzerland. We probably succeeded more in sanctioning the corrupt externally than internally. We opened new cooperation horizons for the Republic of Moldova and validated our position on the world map. Our active, balanced and consistent foreign policy has allowed us, despite the war abroad, to maintain peace and stability in Moldova, to overcome a difficult winter, to maintain the economy, to support it and to continue the important reforms so that we can advance firmly on our European path. I want to thank all of you for the significant effort you have each made in the country you represent us for these achievements," said Sandu.

The President also pointed out the tasks for the next year, among which are: the fastest possible initiation of the accession negotiations of our country to the EU, the revival of the economy, the promotion of the interests of the diaspora and the promotion of the Republic of Moldova as a security provider in the region.
