Chisinau, Aug. 17 /MOLDPRES/- One thousand smart water meters, equipped with remote data transmission modules were installed in 18 housing blocks in the municipality of Ungheni. They were procured from the sources offered by the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions program, implemented by UNDP and UNICEF, and the cost of the devices is about 80 thousand euros.
The devices contribute to a more efficient management of water resources and eliminate the need to visit consumers' homes. The data provided by the meters are transmitted to Apă-Canal Ungheni database. The operator can see in real time if there are technical difficulties and intervene promptly.
The director of the "Apă-Canal Ungheni" municipal enterprise, Petru Scutaru, stated that the new smart meters offer many benefits.
Currently, the municipality of Ungheni is equipped with water networks in proportion to 96%, and with sewage networks – 56%.
As part of the EU4Moldova: Focal Regions program, new sewerage networks were built for eight streets in the center and Berești-Vasilica neighborhood in Ungheni municipality. Also, a new aqueduct with a length of over 1600 meters was built, which provides drinking water to over 24 thousand people. The total value of the investments for these works is over 470 thousand euros, an amount that also includes the local financial contribution.
