Chisinau hosts 10th edition of Diaspora Congress

Chisinau, August 18 /MOLDPRES/- About 300 citizens of the Republic of Moldova, settled abroad, gathered today in Chisinau at the 10th edition of the Diaspora Congress, to discuss with representatives of the authorities about the problems they face, possible solutions for them and how our citizens from abroad can contribute to the country's development projects.
The event began with the honoring of the anthem of the Republic of Moldova, the anthem of the European Union.
Later, the participants were greeted by the head of state, Maia Sandu. "Welcome home, dear diaspora citizens. August is the period with the greatest emotions for the vast majority of families in our country. Thank you for continuing to help those at home, because you keep Moldova in your heart, because you promote it", said Maia Sandu.
The President mentioned that during the last year, several actions were taken to solve some problems previously reported by fellow citizens in the diaspora. At the same time, the head of state admitted that there is still a lot to be done in terms of improving the quality of services for citizens at home and those in the diaspora, speeding up the process of signing social protection agreements with other states and recognizing study diplomas.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu said that the event is an opportunity to discuss the essential role that the diaspora plays in the country's development process, especially in the conditions where our country "is in a crucial moment in its history, in the last year firm steps have been taken towards the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union". He said that the authorities are making efforts to improve the quality of consular services for the citizens of our country abroad, and currently they are working on the development of an "e-consulate" program, which could be finalized by spring next year.
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova settled in different countries of the world, including Italy, France, Great Britain, Canada, USA, were present at the event. The congress can also be followed online by compatriots from abroad, who also have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion panels within the event.
Diaspora Congress takes place within the Diaspora Days, organized on August 18-19 in Chisinau. Tomorrow, our country will host the Diaspora Business Forum.
