Moldovan government awards honorary diplomas to people who made possible organization of Bessarabians in Gulag exhibition in centre of Chisinau

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - The people who contributed to the good organization of the immersive exhibition, Bessarabians in Gulag, staged on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) on 9-30 July, received the government’s honorary diploma and letters of thanks, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean expressed gratitude to all those who had got involved in the fulfillment of the idea, through which we managed to honour the memory of the victims of the Stalinist deportations and convey an important lesson of history to the next generations.
„I want to thank the entire team for the carrying out of this project and for the fact that you generated emotions. The exhibition had an extraordinary impact in the society. A lot of people, who did not know or forgot about the horrors of the past, refreshed their memories and the people deported or their families were able to tell their life stories. That is why the idea must be turned permanent and the mobile museum which the government is set to organize should reach as many settlements as possible,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
Those 31 historians – university professors, scientific researchers, specialists and inspectors from nine archive, museum, higher education and pre-university institutions, as well as 26 volunteers who daily stayed in railway carriages and interacted with people received letters of thanks as well.
It is worth mentioning that the Bessarabians in Gulag exhibition was organized by Moldova’s government, State Chancellery and Culture Ministry, with the support of the National Agency of Archives, National History Museum and the National Library. During the exhibition, more objects which belonged to deportees, a collection of topic-related books and archive materials were displayed in two railway carriages, similar to the ones in which tens of thousands of Bessarabians were deported to Siberia.
The original format of the exhibition was possible due to the support of the Railway of Moldova state enterprise, which put at the disposal two railway carriages, set on the Great National Assembly Square, with the support of the National Motor Transport Agency and Interior Ministry.
