Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/ - A segment of road of 0.7 km was inaugurated, after rehabilitation, in the Ungheni city, on 28 August – the day of this municipality.
The modernization of the Alexandru Boico street from the Ungheni city implied the renovation of the road infrastructure of 0.7 km, setting of kerb stones, the longitudinal and transversal marking, the setting of 50 road signs, arrangement of six entrances in yards, green area, two crosswalks and the setting of illumination. The renovation works worth over 420,000 euros were carried out within the programme, EU4Moldova: Focal Regions, financed by EU and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and with the contribution of the Ungheni city hall.
„The European Union supports the development of the local communities in Ungheni through the programme, EU4Moldova: Focal Regions. A significant component of the programme is dedicated to the improvement of the public infrastructure. A developed infrastructure, just as the Boico Street is, is important for the residents of Ungheni, as it provides easy access, enhances the mobility and the cities and settlements become more dynamic. Also, this provides opportunities of economic development, enhances the places’ attractiveness, improve the population’s means for living. I am happy to see that the Ungheni region is able to attract EU funds from diverse sources and implements projects successfully. I congratulate the local authorities and the residents of Ungheni and I hope that they will enjoy the new renovated road,’’ Head of the European Union’s Delegation in Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said.
Over 18 economic agents, which work on this road segment, as well as those over 3,000 employees of the Free Economic Zone benefit from modernized road infrastructure.
„The renovation of this road, possible within the programme, EU4Moldova: Focal Regions, represents more than just a mere physical modernization. It symbolizes our collective resolution to create a friendly environment for growth, innovation and sustainable economic progress. Through the improvement of the infrastructure which connects our businesses and communities, we do not only relieve and improve the access, but also create an ecosystem in which businesses can prosper and opportunities can flourish,’’ UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Andrea Cuzyova said.
The programme, EU4Moldova: Focal Regions, (2019-2024) backs the intelligent, inclusive and sustainable social and economic development in the Cahul and Ungheni regions, in order to provide the citizens with better living standards. The programme has an overall budget of 23 million euros, is financed by the European Union and is implemented by UNDP and UNICEF.
