Chisinau, 31 August /MOLDPRES/ - The Great National Dictation today was organized on the square of the Maria Biesu National Opera and Ballet Theatre. All people willing to test the level of knowledge of the Romanian language participated in the event.
„The Moldovans want to live freely, in peace and understanding on their own land. The Romanian language must unite us in this desideratum. In last March, I promulgated the law which provided for the replacement of the syntagma, Moldovan language, by the Romanian language one in the legislation. Through this law, we fulfilled the requirement of those almost one million of Moldovans from 1989, observing the decision of the Constitutional Court and the text of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova,’’ reads a message by President Maia Sandu at the Great National Dictation, on the Romanian Language Day.
According to the head of state, in the European Union, where Moldova aspires to be, the Romanian language has a respected place and nobody runs the risk of being punished for speaking in his/her native language. „There are no inferior or superior peoples, there no inferior or superior languages, just as they wanted us to believe for years. The Romanian language has its worthy place among the states of the world. We speak the Romanian language in Moldova, one of the official languages of the European Union, along with another over twenty seven million people in the world. All languages and all citizens are equal in the European Union. I trust the generations which grow now – you will transform Moldova into a European state, with pride for our traditions, culture and language,’’ Maia Sandu said.
Teachers, pupils, students and representatives of various professions participated in the contest. The text proposed to the participants in the dictation was selected from among the winners of the contest of essays on the subject, Why Moldova Must be Member of the European Union. The finalists will be announced in early next September.
