Chisinau, 1 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu discussed with students of the Journalism and Communications Sciences Faculty of the Moldovan State University (USM) on the first day of the academic year, the presidential press service reported.
The head of state told the students that, in these complicated times, Moldova needed, more than ever, professional, correct and courageous journalists. ‘’The war at our border and the pandemic, which hit the entire world, proved how important is for us to have access to truthful information and a free information space. And the role of the journalist is crucial in this respect,’’ the Moldovan president said.
The head of state said that she backed informed and strong people, as they can do correct choices. ‘’Regretfully, at TV, on news portals, not only true things are told. Now, when each man with a phone in his/her hand can create information content and when diverse actors want to manipulate the public opinion in their interest, the free media is the one which provides a clean media space. I told the future journalists that they are the ones who can influence, in the direct sense of the word, the future of this country, through the way they will inform the society, through the values by which they are guided and through the endeavor through which they will reach the essence of the things.’’
Also, President Maia Sandu wished the students to read a lot, to keep pace with the innovations in the field and to practice the profession chosen with confidence and responsibility here, in Moldova.
„On this first day of school, I wish all pupils, students, teachers, as well as parents an as interesting academic year as possible and with good and very good marks, a year in which they are to gain useful experiences and memories for a lifetime,’’ the Moldovan president added.
