Chisinau, 2 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Aegean Airlines will launch the Chisinau-Athens flight at the Chisinau International Airport, starting from next November, by two flights per week – on Tuesdays and Fridays. President Maia Sandu made statements to this effect today.
„Several days ago, during a visit to Athens, I discussed with the local authorities the need of a direct flight between our countries. I am happy to inform you that, starting from November 2023, the Aegean Airlines company will launch the flight Chisinau-Athens, with two flights per week. We will be able to travel easier for tourism and business and the Moldovans settled in Greece will be able to travel more often home, to see their families again,’’ Maia Sandu said.
According to the head of state, the relations between Moldova and Greece are very good and we will soon have an embassy of Greece in Chisinau. ‘’I discussed the bilateral cooperation with President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou, at the Bled Strategic Forum earlier this week and with Prime Minister Mitsotákis in Athens last week. We will soon have an embassy of Greece in Chisinau and will sign the Agreement on the mutual recognition of driver’s licences. We already have a framework contract with the gas operator from Greece, DEPA, on the purchasing of natural gas, which will help us diversify the energy sources and enhance the country’s energy security. We will continue deepening the Moldovan-Greek relations, as well as with other European countries, for the benefit of our citizens,’’ the Moldovan president added.
Aegean Airlines is the biggest air company from Greece. One of the biggest low-cost air companies of Europe, Air Baltic, has recently informed that it would launch the Chisinau-Riga flight starting from the 2024 year. At the same time, in early last August, another three air companies said they would launch direct flights to Chisinau. It is about Southwind Airlines, Israir and Azerbaidjan Airlines – AZAL.
