Meeting of Council for Human Rights held at Moldovan government's headquarters

Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - A meeting of the Council for Human Rights (CNDO), chaired by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, was held at the government’s headquarters today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The agenda comprised more subjects, such as: analysis of the situation as regards the observance of human rights on the left bank of Dniester and the measures undertaken by the authorities, in order to ensure their observance, as well as the approval of the draft set of measures for the implementation of the recommendations received at the 40th session of the working group of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review.
The Universal Period Review is the most complex exercise of assessing the observance of human rights by the UN member states. In this respect, the participants in the CNDO meeting backed the imperativeness for Moldova to better prepare for the fourth cycle, which will take place on the period of the 2026-2027 years and the set of measures approved represents an instrument of monitoring the actions of the authorities and institutions in charge of the recommendations’ implementation.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized the need to update the legislation which regards the human rights and the assuring that it works, is observed and the institutions which defend it are integral. The PM referred also to the importance of the observance of the rights and of the equal treating of children, women and people with diverse degrees of disability.
„I am happy that we aligned with the 2023 Global Agenda. We should boost the efforts and make sure that the degree of observance of the human rights on the left bank of Dniester increases. Our task is to encourage the civil society to be more active and start more democratic processes. Also, it is necessary for us to get to a cultural change in the society as regards the equal treatment of all citizens,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
At the same meeting, the Council members heard the evaluation report on the implementation of the first national action plan in the field of human rights for 2018-2022, worked out with the support of the UN Human Rights Office. The report recommends, inter alia, the elaboration of a new document of policies in the human rights sector till the end of this year.
The National Council for Human Rights is a consultative body of the government, set up in order to monitor the way of implementation of the state’s policy in the human rights sector, as well as of the international treaties in the human rights field, Moldova is party to.
