Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s citizens due to travel to the European Union will benefit from the same tariffs for the mobile services as at home; the procedure will be valid for the EU travelers in Moldova.
The decision to incorporate the roaming services in the Association Agreement between EU and Moldova was adopted by the European Commission on 1 September this year and comes following a joint commitment of the telecommunications operators from EU and Moldova to voluntarily reduce the roaming tariffs as of 1 January 2024.
„This is one more step towards normality. Our people deserve the same opportunities available in other EU states,’’ Deputy Prime Minister, Economic Development Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba said.
The adding of Moldova to the ‘’roam like at home’’ area of EU is one of the key actions of the EU-Moldova Priority Action Plan, agreed upon in June 2023. This plan represents a map for the full implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between EU and Moldova and for Moldova’s deeper integration in the EU’s Single Market.
The proposal is to be analyzed by the Council of the European Union. After the Council’s approval, the EU-Moldova Association Committee is to take a Joint Decision within the Trade Configuration, in order to update the Annex to the Association Agreement, to include the EU’s most recent legislation on telecommunications and postal services. After the EU’s relevant legislation is enforced in Moldova, the country and EU will be able to provide the ‘’roam like at home’’ services.
The Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area between EU and Moldova, was signed in June 2014.
