Underground complex of Christian cult discovered in central Moldova settlement

Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/ - The National Archaeological Agency (ANA) today informed about the discovery of an underground complex of Christian cult from the modern age, identified in the Calfa village, central Anenii Noi district. The complex is at the northern edge of the settlement, where two small ethnographic houses are still preserved.
The Agency said that, according to certain clear-cut sigs, the underground complex had worked in the Soviet period too, being assigned to sectarians Inochentists. ‘’There was a residential building, from which remains of stone foundation preserved, on the underground complex, the area of which is of 2.6x2.6 metres and a depth of over 5 metres from the present level of soil,’’ ANA said.
Undoubtedly, this interesting underground complex from Calfa needs to be documented, researched and conserved, as it is of certain importance for the history and cultural heritage of the concerned area, the National Archaeological Agency added.
