Lucia Popescu, Iulian Muntean to be put forward for office of member of Moldova's Superior Council of Magistracy

Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/ - The candidature of Lucia Popescu and the one of Iulian Muntean will be put forward in parliament’s plenum for the office of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM). The parliamentary juridical commission for appointments and immunities has taken a decision to this effect.

Lucia Popescu has degree in law and has diploma of master in civil law and European law. Presently, she works in the project, Consolidation of transparency, responsibility and access to the judicial system of Moldova. Lucia Popescu has earlier acted as legal adviser, project manager.  

Iulian Muntean is lawyer and has earlier acted as university lecturer at more higher education institutions of Moldova.

The contest for the selection of candidates for the position of CSM member was held in three phases: submission and admissibility of files, assessment of candidates’ integrity and the interview. It is worth being mentioned that six people who passed the evaluation were admitted to the interview.  

Under the legislation, the Superior Council of Magistracy is made up of 12 members. Six of them, who are not judges, are appointed by the parliament, with the votes of three fifths of the MPs elected.
