Moldovan president discusses accession to EU, justice, security in Hague

Chisinau, 5 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu discussed the bilateral cooperation with more representatives of the Dutch parliament, during her visit to the Netherlands on 4 September, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meetings with First Deputy Speaker of the Senate Mei Li Vos, First deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives Roelien Kamminga, as well as with the members of the parliamentary commissions for foreign policy and European affairs, the head of state referred to Moldova’s European aspirations, as well as the ample process of reforms underway, meant to support them. The Moldovan president thanked for the Dutch partners’ contribution to the consolidation of the good governance and the human rights in Moldova. She stressed that the accession to EU, in the regional security context, was a long-lasting investment in Moldova’s democracy.
President Maia Sandu visited the headquarters of Eurojust - European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation between the competent institutions of the EU member states. During a dialogue with Eurojust President Ladislav Hamran, the head of state said that Moldova worked to become a strong and reliable security partner on the European continent. A better cooperation with the Agency will allow combating more efficiently the complex cross-border crimes, which will contribute to a safer and more united Europe against the organized crime rings.
Also on 4 September, President Maia Sandu participated in a panel of discussions, organized by the Dutch Atlantic Treaty Association, in partnership with the Clingendael Institute. Over 100 politicians, diplomats, university professors and students, representatives of the civil society and mass media – all interested in the developments in Moldova – participated in the dialogue. The head of state stressed that the Moldovan authorities worked to resolutely advance on the agenda of reforms which must, first of all, improve the living of the Moldovans and bring the country closer to the living standards from the European countries. The crises and the war at the border showed that we have no other way for a strong democracy but to join the European Union, where we will find safety, well-being and the citizens will be respected for their choices.
