Romania supports Moldova's request to associate with format of cooperation within Three Seas Initiative - Romanian PM says

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - Romania firmly supports Moldova’s request to associate with the format of cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative. Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu today made statements to this effect at a meeting with President Maia Sandu, on a visit to Bucharest to participate in the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative.
„Romania firmly backs Chisinau’s request to associate with this format of cooperation, which regards, inter alia, the identification of concrete ways of involving Moldova and Ukraine in projects meant to enhance the degree of interconnectivity in the fields of energy, transports and digital sector in the region,’’ PM Marcel Ciolacu stressed.
The Romanian prime minister reaffirmed the political and technical support for Moldova’s integration into the European Union. Ciolacu noted that, at this point, priority was the decision on the starting of the negotiations on accession, at the European Council due in next December.
For her part, President Maia Sandu thanked Romania for the support provided to Moldova at the bilateral level and in the present security context, triggered by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. She also emphasized the importance of continuing the cooperation, especially in the energy sector, given the nearing of the cold season.
PM Marcel Ciolacu noted that Romania had recently transferred the first installment of 10 million euros for financing priority projects, based on the Agreement between the governments of Romania and Moldova on the implementation of the programme on non-refundable technical and financial assistance worth 100 million euros. According to a press release by the Romanian government, the funds of this first installment were directed to the purchasing of mini-buses for the school transportation and to infrastructure and local development projects, including on water and sewerage supply.
