General local elections: Moldovan electoral body establishes quantum of loans provided to electoral contenders

Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today established the quantum of the no-interest loan provided to electoral contenders, the ceiling of the financial means which can be transferred to the account, Meant for Initiative Group, and the account Electoral Fund at the general local elections due on 5 November.
The quantum of the no-interest loan for each party will be of 50,000 lei (2,500 euros) and for each independent candidate it will amount to 10,000 lei. The way of providing and reimbursement of no-interest loans to electoral contenders for the carrying out of the electoral campaign is established through regulation, approved under an order by the Finance Ministry.
In the context, the Commission established the coefficient of financial means of 23.9 lei for one voter, which can be transferred to the account, Meant for Initiative Group, in the case of the independent candidate for the office of mayor and councilor in the local council.
The general ceiling of the financial means which can be transferred to the Electoral Fund account and used by electoral contenders in each constituency at the general local polls is of 66,274,579 lei, proceeding from the coefficient of 23.9 lei per one voter.
According to the legal norms, the general ceiling nationally of the financial means which can be transferred to the Electoral Fund account and Meant for Initiative Group is of 0.1 per cent of the incomes provided for in the law on the state budget for the concerned year.
