Moldovan parliament speaker says Lithuania reliable partner for Moldova

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Committee on Foreign Affairs of Lithuania’s Seimas will soon approve the mandate for the country vote in the EU Council on the opening of the negotiations for the accession of Moldova and Ukraine, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, on a working visit to Vilnius, today had meetings at the Seimas of Lithuania, during which he discussed with Lithuanian MPs.
The Moldovan parliament speaker met Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, with whom he discussed the bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania. ‘’I appreciated the dialogue between our countries in more sectors. I referred to the parliamentary agenda and congratulated the Lithuanian colleagues on the opening of the parliamentary session, which took place today and in which I was pleased to take part,’’ Igor Grosu said.
The parliament speaker and the head of the Committee on European Affairs, Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, discussed the process of national legislation’s approximation to the European Union’s one. Igor Grosu said that the Moldovan parliament was focused on the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission, in the context of the giving of the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union and the starting of the negotiations and Lithuania’s experience is quite helpful.
The agenda of the visit to Seimas included also discussions with other Lithuanian lawmakers competent in the security and economy sectors. The parliament speaker stressed that the Moldovan authorities backed the entrepreneurs and created conditions for economic growth, as this is a guarantee for the consolidation of the democracy in Moldova. ‘’I thanked the Lithuanian partners for the support provided in our process of accession to the European Union. I made sure once again that Lithuania is a reliable partner for Moldova,’’ said the Moldovan parliament speaker in the end of his working visit to Lithuania.
