Inflation fell below 10%

Chisinau, 11 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- In August 2023, average consumer prices decreased compared to the current July by about 0.1%, marking the further drop of the monthly inflation rate, recorded starting from June 2023. The data were presented today by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).
Annual inflation in August 2023, compared to August 2022, was 9.7%, down by 1.1 percentage points compared to the level recorded in the current July.
"Inflation has dropped below 10%. We are at 9.7%. The lowest level in almost the last two years. The main challenge now is not inflation, but to support investment to fuel economic growth. We are doing everything in our power to end the year on a positive note and prepare the economy for next year's economic growth", Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Dumitru Alaiba said.
According to the BNS, the drop in average consumer prices was determined by the decrease in food prices by about 0.8%. Among food products, more pronounced decreases were recorded for vegetables - by 8.7%, fruits - by 1.5, sugar - by 1.1, vegetable oil - by 1%. At the same time, during the analysis period, price increases for chicken eggs were recorded - by 17.2%.
