Pre-Vetting Commission of Moldova starts evaluation of candidates for Superior Council of Prosecutors selected by government

Chisinau, 13 September /MOLDPRES/ - Two representatives of the civil society, selected by the government for filling the vacant office of member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), will be evaluated by the Pre-Vetting Commission on the next period.
According to the quoted source, an expert in justice, rule of law state and human rights, Radu Mirza, will be the first to be evaluated and subsequently – a university lecturer at the Public Law Department of the Law Faculty of the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM), Mihail Sorbalo.
The Commission today submitted to the candidates the form of the Declaration for 5 years. The filled in Declaration, as well as any other documents, depending on case, are to be returned to the Commission by email till late 20 September.
The Declaration for 5 years is a document which includes information on the personal assets and interests of candidates, as well as the list of close people from the judiciary system, prosecutor’s office and public service. If the candidates have earlier not been subjects of the declaring of the personal wealth and interests, they are to fill in declarations of personal wealth and interests for each of the last five years.
After the declarations are received, the Pre-Vetting Commission will analyze the incomes and properties of the candidates and their families, based on the extended researches of the relevant data of the evaluation, collected from public information systems, accumulated from private people and legal entities and following the subsequent communication with the candidates.
The office of CSP member on behalf of the civil society, for which the two candidates aspire, became vacant in last April. Under the law on the Prosecutor’s Office, CSP is made up of ten members. Five CSP members are elected by the General Assembly of Prosecutors from among prosecutors in office, one - from the Prosecutor General’s Office and four - from territorial and specialized prosecutor’s offices; at the same time, four members are elected by contest from among the civil society, as follows: one by the Moldovan president, one – by the government and one by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. At the same time, the president (including the acting one) of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) is a de jure member of CSP.
