Schedule of funerals of first President of Moldova Mircea Snegur

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has signed a degree on the setting of the state commission for the organization of the funerals, given the passing away of the first president of the Republic of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, the presidential press service reported.    

All people willing to pay their last respects to President Mircea Snegur are expected to come to the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral on 15 September starting from 18:00 or at the Palace of the Republic on 16 September as of 10:00.  

The ceremony of burial will take place on 16 September and will start with the state funerals at the Palace of the Republic. President Mircea Snegur will be buried at the Chisinau-based Central Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street.   

An obituary reminding about the contribution of President Mircea Snegur to the consolidation of the state Republic of Moldova was published on the webpage of the Presidency: ‘’He spoke out with certainty and intransigence for the Romanian language and tricolor flag – values which united the people in thoughts and feelings, bringing them to the Great National Assembly Square in crucial moments of the history. The speech of the President to people on 27 August 1991 gave confidence in the free and democratic future of our country.’’
