Chisinau, 20 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The level of traffic safety on public roads will increase, and the severity of road accidents will decrease. Government today approved the draft law on road infrastructure safety management, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The draft aims at harmonizing the national legislation in the field with the European one and setting the effective mechanisms for managing traffic safety on public roads. To this end, procedures such as road safety impact assessment, road safety audit, inspections and network safety classification will be applied. Thus, specific road safety inspections are to be carried out on road sections with a high concentration of accidents.
The implementation of the law will contribute to the improvement of road safety, both on newly designed and existing road infrastructures, as well as to the achievement of the objectives outlined in the national plans and programs. At the same time, the document will facilitate access to international financing or technical assistance programs for strengthening the road safety system at the national level.
It will contribute to aligning the commitments made during the United Nations General Assembly Meeting on road safety, to prevent at least 50% of road deaths by 2030.
