The reformation of the social assistance system represents the 17th governmental action included in the We Edify European Moldova National Plan. The priority was established following the analysis of the situation in the field, which showed a large number of people able for work who are not motivated to get employed and dependent on payment of social assistance benefit. Presently, the getting of the status of unemployed is a precondition for being able to benefit from the payment of the social benefit, as well as from the health insurance policy provided by the government, which favours the increase in the number of unemployed people.
The draft approved extends the term of repeated registration with status of jobless person from 3 to 6 months for the people who lost this status for groundless reasons. Also, the draft proposes providing unemployed people with health insurance policy only for the period of payment of the unemployment benefit.
The document also sees the introduction of new services provided by the territorial subdivisions of the National Employment Agency, which will help people who look for jobs identify the fittest measures of occupation.
According to statistics, in the first six months of this year, 14,000 people with status of unemployed were registered in Moldova. At the same time, 19,000 jobs were declared vacant and 4,500 jobless people were employed.
