Moldovan parliament accepts lifting of immunity of lawmaker Alexandr Nesterovschi

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - MP Alexandr Nesterovschi has remained without parliamentary immunity. The lawmakers today approved three applications submitted by acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu to this effect.  

The application regard the agreement for the lift of the parliamentary immunity, for the detaining, arrest, search and sending to court of two criminal files as to MP Alexandr Nesterovschi on more deeds provided for in the Criminal Code. Among them, there are the passive corruption, through claiming, acceptance and personal reception or through other people, by a person holding public office, of assets he ought not to have and to fulfill actions in exercising his duty; deliberate acceptance of the financing of the political party on behalf of an organized crime ring; illegal financing of political parties.      

Acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu said the lifting of the parliamentary immunity was necessary for the criminal prosecution body to be able to further accumulate evidence in the file and for a good carrying out of the criminal prosecution.   

Lawmaker Alexandr Nesterovschi was present at the consideration of the applications and turned down the charges brought against him.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said ‘’the citizens are waiting for finality in these files.’’   

Also today, MP Irina Lozovan was stripped off immunity. In last March, both Irina Lozovan and Alexandr Nesterovschi left the parliamentary faction of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists and joined the Movement for People. Subsequently, the two MPs joined the Revival party.
