Japanese newspaper's readers made donations for refugees from Ukraine, staying in Cărpineni

Chisinau, 22 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Readers of the Japanese daily, The Mainichi, have donated via the UNDP Moldova ten new computers to children from Ukraine refugees in Cărpineni, Hânceşti.
The children and young refugees from Ukraine staying in the placement center in Cărpineni commune, Hâncești district will be able to take lessons online, thanks to the new computers purchased from the donation from the foundation of the Japanese newspaper Mainichi. 10 laptops and a color printer, sent through UNDP Moldova were purchased from the money donated by the readers of the Japanese daily as part of the Save the Children campaign.
The placement center for refugees in Cărpineni currently accommodates 69 people. 22 residents are children, of which 10 are students. This school year, eight refugee students from Ukraine were enrolled at the Russian-language high school in Hâncești, and they are provided with daily transportation. The other two school-age children are learning online in their schools in Ukraine.
Part of the donation are hygiene and cleaning products offered to the other refugee placement center in Cărpineni. Three such centers operate in Hâncești district, two are in Cărpineni.
In May - July 2022, a team of journalists from The Mainichi newspaper visited UNDP partner localities, including Carpineni, to report on the experience of refugees from Ukraine and their integration into the host communities in Moldova. The visit was accompanied by a campaign to collect donations from Mainichi readers.
