Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu, along with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on the sidelines of her visit to Portugal, participated in a forum with representatives of the private sector, the presidential press service has reported.

„I invited Portuguese business people to invest in Moldova. I told them about the reforms carried out by our government, in order to improve the investment climate: reducing the number of regulations in the economic sector, digitalization of the public services, a bigger openness of the labour market,’’ the head of state said.

The Moldovan president also referred to the big projects of infrastructure, which will improve Moldova’s connections to Romania and other EU member countries, as well as to Ukraine. The head of state also invited Portuguese energy companies to invest in the solar and wind energy sectors from Moldova, as Portugal is a country which generates 60 per cent of its own electricity from renewable sources. The use of energy from renewable sources will help Moldova consolidate its energy security.

„I told them also about our IT sector. I encouraged the companies from Lisbon, an important European technological hub, to export know-how to Moldova, where they will find many talents in the field. President Rebelo de Sousa is a great backer of closer economic relations between Moldova and Portugal and provided his every support for this effort, which will be beneficial for the economies of both countries,’’ Maia Sandu added.
