Several categories of electoral contestants must suspend activity since beginning electoral campaign

Chisinau, Oct. 9 /MOLDPRES/- Electoral contestants who fall under the provisions of Article 16 (3) of the Electoral Code must suspend their activity from the position they hold from the moment the electoral campaign begins.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the persons who fall under these provisions are: deputy prime ministers, ministers and ex officio members of the Government; secretary general of the Office of the President of the Republic of Moldova, secretary general of the Parliament, secretary general of the Government, deputy secretaries of the Government, state secretaries, general secretaries of the ministries; heads and deputy heads of central public authorities and organizational structures within their sphere of competence.

At the same time, the following are targeted: heads and deputy heads of the districts; mayors and deputy mayors; praetors and deputy praetors; secretaries of local councils; officials/employees who have the obligation to suspend their service/work relations according to the special legal norms that regulate their activity.

"These persons are obliged to comply with the legal regime of conflicts of interest, incompatibilities, as well as other restrictions and limitations provided by special legal norms, including for the purpose of preventing the illicit use of administrative resources during the electoral period. If the electoral body finds that the candidate who has this obligation has not been suspended from office, the decision cancels the registration of the electoral contestant, of the independent candidate or excludes the respective candidate from the list of electoral contestants", the CEC said.

The general local elections will be held on November 5. The electoral campaign started on October 6 and will end on November 3.
